感染症の制圧にむけた基礎~応用研究

微生物は生態系の維持、食品、医薬品の製造等に欠くことができない存在です。私たちの健康は常在菌なくして成り立ちません。一方で、微生物の一部はヒトにがんや感染症を引き起こします。当研究室では微生物を上手に利用したり、微生物が病原性を発揮する分子メカニズムを解明したり、感染症を治療するための新しい方法を開発する研究を行っています。より豊かで健康な暮らしを実現するために一緒に挑戦してみませんか。

研究内容

(1)感染症に対する新たな治療戦略の開発研究 Development of novel strategies to control pathogenic microbe infections

病原微生物の感染は、感染症やがんの原因です。抗菌薬や抗ウイルス薬の開発によって感染症の治療は著しく進歩しました。ところが、近年治療薬が効かない病原体が社会問題になっています。特に多数の抗菌薬に耐性になった細菌は医療関連感染を引き起こし、近代医療を妨げる大きな要因です。当研究室では、多剤耐性菌を中心に、未だ根治療法が確立していない病原体等に対する新たな制御方法を探索します。

(2)宿主-病原体相互作用の解析を通じた病原性発揮メカニズムの解明 Elucidation of molecular mechanism of the virulence of pathogenic microbes via host-pathogen interactions

我々は様々な微生物に絶えず曝露されていますが、ほとんどの場合は健康を害することはありません。異物が体内に侵入しても、それを排除し恒常性を維持する免疫機構が私たちの体に備えられているからです。しかし、病原細菌は病原因子よって宿主を攻撃したり、免疫機構から逃れることによって感染症を引き起こします。当研究室では病原体がどのようにして宿主を攻撃するのか、宿主の免疫から逃れるのかを、病原体と宿主側の両面を分子から個体レベルで解析します。
